Where in Devon #7 ?

The answer to last week's WID was : Silverton.

Well done if you answered correctly.

As a busy oven cleaner, servicing the whole of Devon and parts of Somerset, we get to see some beautiful places. So we thought we would run a little competition from time to time - we'll post a picture of one of the locations that we've recently visited, along with a clue or two. First person to email us (theovencleaningman@gmail.com) will win a £10 credit towards their next clean. We'll publish the answer to the location the following week, for anyone still puzzling.

So, where were we this week?

This market town stands mid point between Exeter, Barnstaple and Tiverton.

It was once the centre of industry, being a major trading point for woollen cloth.

On Sunday 14 August 1743, a great fire started, completely destroying High Street and buildings in the "West Town". At that period of time it was the second largest fire in the country, second only to the Great Fire of London. Sixteen people lost their lives, with over 2,000 made homeless and 450 houses destroyed. Other large fires occurred in 1766, 1769 and 1772.

Have you sussed it out yet ? Email us with your best guess, and first correct answer will win the £10 credit. Good luck!!
